Luke
The newest addition to the herd/team is our Off-The-Track-Thoroughbred, Luke, aka Bay Area. Retired from racing in 2021, he is pretty fresh off the track, yet amazingly chill. Ranch life can do that to you! After spending his days in the hustle of racetrack life, he now enjoys gazing out into nature...the birds, the bunnies and all of the simplicities of AZ ranch life.
Standing 16.1 hands tall and quite beefy for a thoroughbred, Luke quickly made his way up the totem pole to herd leader. He is a horse for the more experienced client...what you give him, he will give right back to you. If you're feeling agitated, he will become quickly agitated. If you approach him with a calm demeanor, he'll be in your back pocket and quite the love bug. You will often find him taking naps just about anywhere!
Candy
Arabians are known for their sweet disposition, and our little mare Candy is just that - sweet as can be! It's kind of funny that she came to us with the name Candy...as we've recently discovered that she's insulin resistant and requires low starch feed only. No carrots or apples for this girl, but boy does she loves her strawberries!
Candy has had her struggles in life too. After years with her human, she was moved on to other pastures as her human family was making room for a baby on the way. Scared and sad after her loss and being shuffled around, Candy was deemed unrideable due to her spooky temperament. Previously, she had been a tried and true trail horse for years though, so we knew not to give up on her!! Candy took only months to settle in here and she is now loving life! ATVs, thunder, construction...she is cool with it all! She is great at teaching humans how to be assertive, yet kind. If you can master that skill, she'll link up with you and follow you around the entire arena...wherever you roam! You can often find Candy buddied up with one of the geldings here on the ranch. She's happy to have family again.
Honor
At your very first equine session, you'll meet Honor, aka Magic Man. Honor comes from the prestigious Hart Quarter Horse Ranch, known for their impeccable quarter horses with big bones, kind minds and beautiful roan coloring. Although his bloodlines are akin to horse royalty, he has had his deal of issues in life. Rescued from a kill pen, we took the reins to discover how he ever ended up in such a bad place. It didn't take long...at Honor's first dental exam we discovered that he had EOTRH, a dental condition that leads to painful gum lesions and rotting teeth. But don't worry! He's a survivor! Honor had 14 teeth extracted and can still eat any kind of food he pleases (plus he's totally safe for those scared of horses because he's got a mouth full of gums only)!
Honor was also diagnosed with PPID, an endocrine disorder that impacts hormone production and leads to a host of other issues. Despite all of his challenges, he is the most kind, well-mannered horse you will ever meet! With the right supplements, nutrition and love he is thriving! He proves that what doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger. He connects with each person he meets on a soul level...he'll just stare deep into your eyes as you hug and love all over him. He's the perfect partner to start your equine journey with!
